PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST
STATION #1 – 1.5 MILE RUN: 13 MINUTE TIME LIMIT
Each candidate will complete a 1.5 mile run within 13 minutes.
STATION #2 – PULL-UPS: 60 SECOND TIME LIMIT
Each candidate will do as many successful pull-ups in one (1) minute. A successful pull-up is considered as starting at full arms length and pulling up with the arms until the chin clears the top of the bar. The bar will be grasped with the applicant’s hands facing away (palms out). A minimum of seven (7) pull-ups is required to pass. Points will be awarded on a graduated scale for each additional pull-up over seven
STATION #3 – DUMMBELL CARRY: NO TIME LIMIT
Each candidate will pick up two 70 lb. dumbbells and carry it them a distance of 100 feet, which is marked by a cone as the finish line. Once the applicant begins to carry, they may not stop. If any part of the weights touch the ground before reaching the finish line, no points will be awarded. This event is a pass/fail event. Only one attempt may be made.
STATION #4 – BENT-KNEE SIT-UPS: 2 MINUTE TIME LIMIT
The candidate will perform a minimum of 35 bent-knee sit-ups within 2 minutes. This is a pass/fail event with additional points given for additional sit-ups.
STATION #5 – BALANCE BEAM HOSE CARRY: NO TIME LIMIT
The candidate will be presented with a 2” x 4” x 20’ beam and a length of fire hose weighing at least 20 pounds. The candidate shall walk the entire length of the beam, while carrying the hose, without falling or stepping off of the beam. This exercise is a pass/fail event, with 25 points given to the successful candidate. It is not timed; however, it is limited to one attempt. If the candidate falls or steps off the beam, the candidate will fail the station.
STATION #6 – HORIZONTAL REACH EXERCISE: 35 SECOND TIME LIMIT
The candidate, starting from an erect position with feet apart, approximately shoulder width, will move a fifteen ( 15) pound weight in the following manner: bend over, grasp the weight with both hands while it is at a point on the floor between the feet, lift the weight to waist level and touch it to the floor 12 inches outside the left foot and without letting go, raise the weight to waist level and touch it to the floor 12 inches outside the right foot. The weight shall then be moved alternately in this fashion until the weight has been moved a minimum of 7 times in each direction with the total horizontal distance of travel being at least 21 inches more than the space between the feet for each of the minimum 14 moves. This shall be done in less than 35 seconds.
STATION #7 – EXTENSION LADDER CARRY: NO TIME LIMIT
Each candidate will carry a 24-foot extension ladder a distance of 50 feet, which is marked by a cone as the finish line. Once the applicant begins to carry, they may not stop. If any part of the ladder touches the ground before reaching the finish line, no points will be awarded. This event is a pass/fail event. Only one attempt may be made.
ADDITIONAL STATION (COMPLETED AT THE TIME OF RECRUIT RIDE-ALONG) – 75’ AERIAL LADDER CLIMB: NO TIME LIMIT
The candidate, wearing helmet and harness and attached to a lifeline, will climb to the top of the aerial ladder, touch the top rung and descend in a safe manner. This is not a timed event. This is a pass/fail event. The only requirement is to touch the top rung.
