Communications Specialist/911 Operator


The Warr Acres Police Department is accepting applications for the full-time position of Communications Specialist/911 Operator.

Starting salary is $34,902.16 per year and follows a performance and merit based pay scale thereafter. Job includes an excellent health care plan with 100% coverage paid for by the city, some coverage for dependents, and a defined benefit retirement plan. Communication Specialists receive 96 hours of paid holiday leave, 80 hours of paid vacation leave, and 96 hours of paid annual sick leave.

Qualifications:

The qualified applicant must be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent. No criminal convictions, and must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. The applicant must also be willing to work rotating shifts, which may include working weekends and holidays. Qualified applicants must also pass an extensive background check.

Responsibilities of the job:

The successful applicant will be responsible for receiving calls for service from the public by telephone or from personal contact regarding emergency and non-emergency situations. They will be able to take information from the public and other non-public entities and dispatching of police and fire units to calls for service through radio operations. Other functions of the Warr Acres Communication Specialist includes, but not limited to;

  • The ability to obtain complete and accurate information and communicate the information to police and or fire personnel.
  • Have basic typing/keyboard skills.
  • The ability to multi-task.
  • The capability to handle high stress situations.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Have basic computer skills.
  • The ability to work well with inner and outer departmental personnel.
  • Monitors radio communications for both the Warr Acres Police Department and the Warr Acres Fire Departments.
  • Providing of information to other law enforcement agencies and makes notifications as necessary.
  • Provides general information to the public.
  • Operates Teletype computer terminal to transmit and receive information.
  • Provides information through OLETS as requested by authorized personnel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
