Job Requirements

• Must be or become a licensed Emergency Medical Technician within one year.
• Must be or become Firefighter I certified within one year.
• Ability to learn firefighting and emergency medical principles, techniques and procedures.
• Ability to communicate, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work as a team member.
• Ability to perform a wide variety of firefighting duties, evolutions and methods.
• Ability to apply first aid methods and life saving techniques.
• Willingness to work irregular hours.
• Physical strength and agility in performing tasks under strenuous and adverse conditions.
• Possession of a valid Oklahoma State Drivers License.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

 

Departmental Preferences

• Basic Emergency Medical Technician.
• Fire Fighter I Certification and/or Fire Fighter II Certification.

Working Conditions

• Frequently working as a member of a team and independently at incidents of uncertain duration.
• Subject to extensive time spent outside exposed to the elements.
• Subject to extensive fluctuations in temperature and conditions while performing duties.
• Must perform physically demanding work in hot, humid, atmosphere while wearing equipment which

significantly impairs body-cooling mechanisms.
